If you follow me on Instagram you would have seen that a few weeks ago we went along to the I’M A GIRLY VIP Styling Event. It was an amazing event and so hands on! The children got to play with the dolls first hand and experience the amazing wardrobe that the dolls had. They could also style their hair and pose for a photo, not to mention Tiana was there!
Since the event we have received one of these amazing dolls to review!
I’M A GIRLY Background
I’M A GIRLY are new high-end fashion dolls available in a range of different skin tones, hair colours, hair lengths and styles. They were originally started in Switzerland but are now available in the UK in Harrods and Hamleys. The products have been designed by boys and girls aged 9-13 through the company’s KIDS4KIDS approach. I love the fact these dolls have been designed by children for children. Who else would know better what a child would like?
Maisie was so excited to receive Lola, she chose Lola for her beautiful blue eyes and her long purple hair! I think if Maisie could have purple hair she would! Lola also appealed to Maisie because not only does she like ballet and dancing she’s also very sporty! Maisie said she likes being pretty and girly sometimes but sometimes she likes wearing jeans and trainers and running around in the mud! Maisie was also excited to receive an outfit and a wig!
What do you get in the box?
I’m going to start by saying wow! The box itself is part of the toy, due to I’M A GIRLY’S No Waste policy, the box can be used as a wardrobe in play and then to store the dolls in afterwards. Inside the box is a beautiful wardrobe design and a little mirror.
There are also many accessories available to purchase separately. Maisie received an extra outfit and a blonde wig! I’M A GIRLY encourage girls to restyle the hair and also cut it as part of their “CUT HAIR, DON’T CARE” feature. The exchangeable high quality hair (wigs) means the hair can be replaced so easily.
What did Maisie think?
Well, Maisie absolutely loved it! She has played with Lola pretty much every day for around an hour at a time. Changing her clothes, shoes, styling her hair and having conversations. Maisie is very creative and I think I’M A GIRLY dolls can provide hours of imaginative play. Maisie thought Lola was beautiful with her big blue eyes and long eyelashes. She also loved placing her in the wardrobe once she had finished getting her dressed just like we stand in front of a mirror once we’re ready. Maisie decided to style Lola’s hair into bunches as she often as her hair like this for school.
What did you think as a parent?
I think with toy reviews it’s always nice to give a parent opinion. I love these dolls and what they stand for; being created by kids for kids really appealed to me, I love the fact that the boxes are part of the toy, I love the diversity of the dolls and they bridge the gap between childhood and teenagers perfectly. Maisie is seven years old and she really loved playing with the doll because she could relate to Lola and she loved styling her clothes and hair. As Maisie is getting older she is becoming more aware of the way that she looks and she enjoys dressing up, wearing nice clothes and she always loves trying out new hairstyles. I think the dolls are quite pricey at over £100 but they are definitely worth the money due to the extensive play they would provide and the attention to detail. The dolls are really high quality and the detailing on them is amazing. The box also doubles up as part of the toy which is fantastic. I love the fact that you can purchase additional accessories and wigs for them encouraging play to be extended.
Where can I buy one?
I’M A GIRLY fashion dolls are available to buy in Hamleys and Harrods and retail from £109 upwards. There are currently five different dolls; Lola, Lucy, Jasmine, Kayla and Zoe. Each doll has different features including hair colour, hair texture, eye colour, skin tone and personalities. The dolls have natural proportions and relate to children.
I definitely think more outfits are going to be on Maisie’s Christmas list this year! She has been loving playing with Lola and can’t wait to extend her wardrobe collection! I think these dolls would make a fantastic Christmas gift!
