World Book Day with Moonlite – Review

Books have always played a huge part in our lives. As a parent and a primary school teacher I love sharing new stories with my children and I love their reactions whether this is humour or awe and wonder! Books can take you to a different world and I love it.

But then you get those moments before bed when the kids want to read not one, not two but four books. I find that one of the things with having a large family is that they’ll all choose a different book and all want to have them read. As Archie gets older his books are not always suitable for Charlie to listen to but he loves listening to Charlie’s! So on thing we can agree on is Moonlite!

Recently we were sent a bundle of Moonlite products and although the stories we received are aimed at children aged 1-4 and 1-7 there was no reason why Archie and Maisie couldn’t join in.

What is Moonlite?

Moonlite products are a range of storybook projectors. You can buy separate story reels and experience stories in a new way!

It is very simple to get started; just clip the projector onto your phone, select the story reel of your choice and use the torch on your phone to project it onto any surface.

You can display the text on your mobile phone using the Moonlite app.

*It requires no batteries.

Our experience

The children were very excited to try these out and although I like to limit screen time and prefer the children to touch and feel pages this is a lovely alternative! It is a good mix of books and technology. The children see the beautifully illustrated images projected onto the wall but they can still use their imagination to bring the story to life.

We received the starter pack which contains the Moonlite projector, 2 story reels, an activation card and a quick start guide. The two story reels included are The Very Hungry Caterpillar and The Very Busy Spider. The starter pack retails for £19.99.

We also received 3 separate story reels; Goose, The Princess and the Pea and The Three Little Pigs and these retail for £7.99 each. There are many more stories available!

It was quick and simple to download the app and set up my Moonlite account. There are in-app tutorials and instructions on how to use Moonlite.

It was so quick to add the activation codes and there is a little demonstration and bullseye on your screen to match the projector up to.

The experience was beautiful, it actually made me feel quite emotional. The children’s excitement, the music playing from the app and the images on the wall (which are beautiful illustrations) were just amazing. Of course the children still heard my voice and it was me reading the words to them on the screen.

This has made our bedtime stories much more exciting and suitable for all the children! Of course we still read hard copies but this is a truly magical and immersive experience.

Overall, I am so impressed with Moonlite. I think the story reels make story time different and magical. It also reminded me of stories my mum told me about how she would view her Dad’s photography on a projector so I’ll be sure to pop these in my bag next time we visit my mum as I’m sure she’d feel very nostalgic.

Thank you for reading our review,
